Oh man, I’m pretty self conscious myself, so I’m not even sure what I would say to someone… besides to just embrace that that’s a side of you but at the same time to not use it as an excuse to yourself to hold yourself back and not do the things you want to accomplish because of it. Perhaps it’s a hurdle, but it’s not a barrier.
I say to embrace it a little because I struggle to myself, being a guy…I feel like people don’t think guys should be self conscious, that we should always be confident and bravado and all that, which is obviously sexist, but…well, people don’t realize that. And that makes it kind of harder to be shy or self conscious, because you feel like you shouldn’t be and it’s something to be ashamed of (although I don’t personally feel that way, just feel a bit awkward about it).
I hope your daughter learns to love herself for who she is.
